About the Role
Our client is a local government organisation based in Camperdown VIC. They are currently seeking an Accountant to come in and assist them on a permanent part time basis.
Candidates for this role will ideally have:
- CPA/CA qualification (Highly desirable)
- Previous local council or government experience
- Experience with Technology One System or similar (Desirable)
Key responsibilities will include:
- Financial Operations & Treasury: Oversee general ledger integrity through monthly reconciliations, journal processing, and the administration of banking and investment portfolios.
- Compliance & Taxation: Manage statutory obligations, including BAS, FBT, and fuel tax rebates, while ensuring the accuracy of Victorian Grants Commission returns and funding acquittals.
- Business Partnering: Provide financial advice and reporting to department heads to support strategic decision-making and operational performance.
- Asset & Capital Accounting: Coordinate the financial lifecycle of Council assets, including capitalization, disposals, and maintaining the integrity of the asset register.
- Budgeting & Financial Planning: Lead data collation and analysis for annual budgets, quarterly reviews, and the development of the Council’s Fees and Charges Schedule.
- System Integrity & Improvement: Monitor financial system accuracy and drive process enhancements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
About You
You will be an experienced Accountant with proven experience and reliability in previous positions:
The successful candidate will possess:
- Relevant accounting qualification or working towards.
- Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain.
- CPA/CA
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an accounting role.
- Experience in any of the following functions: Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or Rates Administration.
